Constitution for Autistic Pride Reading
Autistic Pride Reading is a non for profit, unincorporated organisation. It has a management
committee who are liable for the actions of the group, and we have Public Liability insurance to
The aims of Autistic Pride Reading are to promote well being and positivity about autism amongst
autistic people and their loved ones in the Berkshire area.
We aim to run an annual event to promote autistic positivity and pride in Reading. So far this has
been a family even but we aim to provide an adult event also.
We also aim to provide a group for autistic families to meet (identified as families with members on
the autistic spectrum) and socialise bi-monthly. We feel peer support of this nature is important as
autistic children and parents are often excluded from society through differential behaviour, life
experiences, difficulties in education etc. This group is in Burghfield Common.
We have a website that is regularly updated, to support autistic families and individuals, and a
facebook page also to promote the above.
We will not employ people to run the groups or events apart from when it is professionals providing
a specific service such as art installations, drama therapy etc. Where possibly these professionals
will be autistic.
We do not support ABA therapy or other forms of therapy designed to negatively affect normal
autistic behaviours; bleaching, cures of any sort. We will not associate with any
organisation/individual that promotes these.
We recognise autism as a social/communication difference drawing inspiration from the social
model of disability.
Members will be autistic individuals and families. There is no membership fee.
Ceasing to be a member
Members may resign at any time in writing to the secretary.
Any offensive behaviour, including racist, sexist or inflammatory remarks, will not be permitted.
Anyone behaving in an offensive way or breaking the equal opportunities policy may be asked not
to attend further meetings or to resign from the group if an apology is not given or the behaviour is
repeated. The individual concerned shall have the right to be heard by the management committee,
accompanied by a friend, before a final decision is made.
